EMC Academic Alliance is industry collaboration with colleges and universities worldwide. This program at Georgia Southern University created and led by Dr. Timur Mirzoev offers unique education on technology topics such as virtualization, cloud computing, big data analytics, and information storage and management. This curriculum focuses on technology concepts and principles applicable to any vendor environment, enabling students to develop highly marketable knowledge and skills required in today’s evolving IT industry. EMC is a global leader in enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver information technology as a service. Our students have an opportunity to get EMC certification (E10-001) when graduating from the EMC Academic Alliance at Georgia Southern University.
Georgia Southern University is an established leader in virtualization education. The University’s Department of Information Technology was the first four-year higher education institution to teach VMware by becoming a VMware IT Academy in 2008. Exciting research opportunities in cloud computing, virtualization, storage take place with the Cloud Computing Research Laboratory created and led by Dr. Timur Mirzoev. Today, the University is breaking new ground again by being chosen by VMware as the first Regional VMware IT Academy. “The demand for professionals with VMware Certified Professional certification (VCP) will grow significantly in the next few years as virtualization becomes standard for government and business computer systems. Because of our association with EMC, VMware and Georgia Southern University support, we have top-quality, commercial-grade computing systems and hardware that are used in our classrooms” said Dr. Timur Mirzoev who is a VMware Certified Instructor (VCI) and heads the Regional VMware IT Academy at Georgia Southern University. Our students have an opportunity to get a VMware Datacenter Virtualization certification (VCP-DCV) when graduating from the Regional VMware IT Academy at Georgia Southern University.
Linux Professional Institute Approved Academic Partner
The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is the world’s premier Linux certification organization. Georgia Southern University’s Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Information Technology joined Linux Professional Institute’s (LPI) training partner program as an LPI Approved Academic Partner. Dr. Christopher Kadlec, Associate Professor, Department of Information Technology notes the value of LPI certification in preparing his students for their IT careers: “Students majoring in Information Technology here at Georgia Southern University specialize in Network and Datacenter Administration, Information Management, or Web and Multimedia Foundations. All of these areas can trace their roots to Linux or Unix. Pursuing LPI certification is a great opportunity for our students to strengthen their academic knowledge and career-readiness.”
Microsoft Academic Alliance
DreamSpark is a Microsoft Program that supports technical education by providing access to Microsoft software for learning, teaching and research purposes. Students registered for a course offered by the College of Engineering and Information Technology have premium access to Microsoft’s Dreamspark software library, providing Microsoft professional-level developer and designer tools at no cost. DreamSpark Premium has a software catalog of over 500 products and is for qualifying technical departments only.
