Certification Courses at Ogeechee Tech

Hello!  My name is Terry Hand and I am the Computer Networking instructor at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) here in Statesboro, Georgia.  I train students from both OTC & Georgia Southern University (GSU) offering them hands-on training on how to setup, maintain, troubleshoot & secure computer networking systems.  Our training varies from basic PC installation & maintenance to more advanced computer networking design & implementation to even Server Administration including the setup and maintenance of servers like Active Directory(DC), DHCP, DNS, RAS-Remote Access, FS/PS, IIS (Web) and much more.

And on top of hands-on training, have you been interested in getting a computer certifications from Microsoft or CompTIA including the infamous A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft’s MCTS(Windows 7), MCITP(Server) or more?  We have been the top ranked certification school in Georgia for three years now (see information below) & this was one of our best years.  We are working hard to produce quality graduates that will be productive employees.  We try to provide more than just a knowledge based program by including an emphasis on hands-on training and work-ethics behavior.  Our training varies from basic PC installation & maintenance to more advanced computer networking design & implementation including training in Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, FS-PS(File/Print Services), RAS, Web(IIS), Email, Terminal Service and new advanced topics including IPSec and Certificate Servers.

Ogeechee Technical College (CIS Program Highlights )

CIS Certifications:  Over the last few years (2009-2012), our students have earned around an average 50+ industry standard computer certifications a year with a near ‘90%’ successful passing rate (highest in Georgia).   Certifications have ranged from the basic CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ certificates up to Microsoft’s MCP and the newer MCTS or MCITP certificates.

Top-Ranked CIS Program: We have been the top ranked technical college in Georgia for three-years running, and we are hoping that such success will continue in the future as our close-ties to the community strengthen, our partnership with GSU thrives and our dual-enrollment program with the local high-schools continues to grow.

OTC & GSU Partnership:  OTC & GSU (Georgia Southern) formed a partnership between the CIS program at OTC and the IT/IS program at GSU.  Students from both schools are invited to take classes, mostly for ‘hands-on training’ but also for ‘certification preparation’.   Last year we had around 25+ GSU students participate in classes.

Boot-Camp Training Seminars (During the Breaks): Starting in 2006, we also started teaching & offering free boot-camp training seminars during the breaks (which have been extremely helpful to students seeking certifications).  Officially boot-camps often can cost anywhere from $1000 up to $4,000, but again, we offer them for free to students who take our classes.  PACS and computer students come out for individualized, customized training.

Advisory Committees: I currently serve on both the Microsoft national advisory committee (Microsoft Faculty Champions) and on the CompTIA’s E2C national advisory committee. I also currently serve on the statewide CIS Executive committee for Georgia and locally with the Statesboro High-School CTAE Advisory committee and the Chamber of Commerce-Small Business Committee.

I look forward to hearing from you all soon.
