Many of our faculty have worked in industry, so they bring real world authenticity to their lectures. The faculty are accomplished engineers in their respective fields and their goal is to provide you with the tools to be an accomplished mechanical engineer in your own right.
Courses are taught by faculty members attentive to the needs of students, not graduate assistants. We also encourage small to medium sized classes. You will not find yourself warehoused in a lecture hall for 300 students with little or no contact with the instructor.
Evolving from a 40-year tradition of teaching applied engineering science in the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program, the Mechanical Engineering Program was first offered at Georgia Southern Fall of 2011. Because of the large number of students in our 2-year Regents’ Engineering Transfer Program to Georgia Tech who decided to complete their degrees at Georgia Southern, we not only had freshman, but also sophomores and juniors ready to take courses Fall of 2011. We now have over 850 students working on undergraduate or graduate mechanical engineering degrees within our department. Our first graduates are expected in May and July of 2013.
