Lady Eagle Racers Lead the 2013 Team
Miranda McCormick (pictured left) and Emily Freeman (pictured below), both Sophomore Mechanical Engineering students at Georgia Southern, have emerged as leaders of Eagle Motorsports 2013 Mini Baja and FormaulSAE racing teams. Ms. Freeman will be Captain of the 2013 Mini Baja Team, while Ms. McCormick is Treasurer of Eagle Motorsports. Emily Freeman also holds the distinction of being Eagle Motorsports’ first-ever female driver. She was a member of the 2012 Mini Baja team that led Georgia Southern to a noteworthy 18th place finish (out of 120) in Madison Wisconsin. Emily drove in both the maneuverability and mud bog events in Madison.
Mini-Baja is a collegiate engineering competition where student teams from around the world engineer, manufacture, and race a Baja-style off-road vehicle. The suspension-jarring four-day race includes an acceleration event, land maneuverability, hill climb, and a four-hour endurance event. The team must also defend their engineering design before a panel of judges. In 2011, Georgia Southern’s Eagle Motorsports has established a tradition for performance excellence at these events. GSU students at any point in their education (from freshman to seniors) are welcome to join the team. Drop by the main shop in the Carruth Building anytime during business hours, or watch around campus for an announcement of our monthly meetings. Join our team!
