ACEC Georgia Scholarship Opportunity
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia has awarded scholarships for many years to worthy students enrolled in engineering schools in Georgia. In the last few years, the scholarship program has increasingly emphasized students that are an employee of ACEC Georgia member firms and that are interested in a career in consulting engineering. Employment at a member firm includes students on the “co-op” program, as well as those that arrange their own full-time (e.g., full-time summer job) or part-time employment (e.g., afternoon work several days a week while a full-time student).
Scholarships are available through the ACEC Georgia – R. Berl Elder Memorial Scholarship Trust. The scholarship will be awarded to the most qualified student from a pool of applicants. To be eligible, the student must satisfy the following requirements:
The scholarship recipient must be in his/her freshmen, sophomore, or junior year and be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering or engineering technology curriculum at a college or university in Georgia. The student must currently be employed by, or have been employed by a member firm of ACEC Georgia during the 12-month period preceding the deadline for receipt of the scholarship application. It is desired that preference be given to a student who is interested in a career in consulting engineering.
To register, students must apply online on the Georgia Engineering Foundation web site at www.GEFinc.org. The deadline for receipt of the scholarship application is August 31, 2014. The selection of an award winner will be in conjunction with other Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarships. The scholarship will be awarded at the Annual GEF Banquet in November.
Since the scholarship is limited to a student directly connected to member firms, the leadership of the firms is encouraged to bring this opportunity to the immediate attention of qualified applicants. Scholarship applicants should follow the procedures outlined in the instructions on the Georgia Engineering Foundation web site; but students should be sure to note the name of the ACEC member firm that they have been employed by on the application. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the ACEC Georgia office at 404-521-2324.
