Dr. Frank Goforth: Associate Professor, earned a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University in 2006. He has research interest in hysteretic systems, control systems, and renewable energy.
Dr. Rami Haddad: Assistant Professor, earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Akron in 2011. His research interests include optical communication transmission, optical modulation techniques, optical networks, dynamic bandwidth allocation for Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONs), bandwidth forecasting algorithms, and engineering education.
Dr. Youakim Kalaani: Associate Professor, earned a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from Cleveland State University in 1996. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E). He has research interest in engineering education, power systems, and renewable energy.
Dr. Sungkyun Lim: Assistant Professor, earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007. Dr. Abdur Rahman: Visiting Assistant Professor, earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University in 2005. He has research interest in applications of plasmas for semiconductor processing and biomedical applications, numerical and spectroscopic characterization of plasmas etc.
Dr. Danda B. Rawat: Assistant Professor, earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. His research focuses on wireless communications and networking. His current research interests include design, analysis, and evaluation of cognitive radio networks, vehicular ad-hoc networks, wireless sensor networks, network security, and cyber physical systems. His research interests also include information theory, signal processing, game theory, and research/project based education.
Dr. Fernando Rios-Gutierrez: Associate Professor, earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University, New Orleans LA, in 2000. He has research interest in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Robotic systems applications, Control Systems, Embedded Systems Design, and Sensor interfaces.
Dr. Anoop Desai: Associate Professor, received his PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 2006. His principal areas of research interest include engineering management, product development, design for manufacturing, Six Sigma and Quality control and engineering economic analysis.
Dr. Mujibur Rahman Khan: Assistant Professor, received his Ph.D. from Florida Atlantic University in 2010. He worked as a Research Assistant Professor and undergraduate program advisor at the University of Texas at El Paso from 2011 to July, 2012. Dr. Khan joined Georgia Southern University in Fall 2012 as a tenure-track assistant professor. His research expertise involves materials science and processing, synthesis and characterization of nanoscale advanced materials for high temperature structural, sensing and thermoelectric applications. Dr. Aniruddha Mitra: Associate Professor, completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 from University of Nevada at Reno. He has conducted research in the area of materials science and processing, composite materials, instrumentation and vibration analysis of mechanical systems. Dr. Mitra has three years of experience as a design engineer working in an automobile industry with specialization in suspension system.
Dr. Gustavo J. Molina: Associate Professor, completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2000 at Virginia Tech. He has conducted research in the area of triboemission, biolubricants/biofuels lubrication, nanofluid erosion, stochastics modeling of emission phenomena, high vacuum, and design of experimental equipment.
Dr. Mosfequr Rahman: Associate Professor, completed his PhD in Engineering Science and Mechanics in 2005. He has conducted energy science research in the areas of experimental fluid mechanics, Aerodynamic performance analysis of vertical axis wind turbine, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of incompressible fluids and nanofluids, experimental and finite element modeling of photostrictive (PLZT) optical actuators for MEMS devices, and mechanical characterization and structure-property relationship of Cross-linked Silica Aerogel (CSA): design and fabrication of cryogenic propellant tank using nanostructured CSA.
Dr. Biswanath Samanta: Assistant Professor, received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1987. He has since steadily held positions as lecturer, assistant professor, and associate professor at various institutions. His area of expertise is in the fields of mechatronics, dynamic systems and control, robotics and intelligent systems, and computational intelligence.
Dr.Valentin A. Soloiu: Associate Professor, completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1997. He is the Allen E. Paulson Endowed Chair of Renewable Energy. He has conducted research in the area of energy science and energy systems, sustainable and renewable bio-fuels, combustion and emissions, fuel sprays, unsteady fluid dynamics, design and development of IC engines, dynamics and vibrations, and tribology. Dr. Brian L. Vlcek: Professor, received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He has conducted research in the area of cryogenic turbopump seals, vapor lubrication of high temperature contacts, fatigue failure of PVC coatings, probabilistic modeling of fatigue failure, aluminum fatigue failure and analysis, alternative energy and tribology of biofuels. Dr. David A. Williams: Associate Professor, completed his Ph.D. in Industrial, Technological, and Occupational Education at the University of Maryland at College Park in 1987. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Industrial Technology. He is currently in his 35th year of teaching. His formal education emphasized the development of applied, hands-on technical skills and his primary area of expertise is in engineering management, industrial materials and manufacturing processes with a strong cognate area in Industrial/Environmental Safety.
Dr. Shaowen Xu: Assistant Professor, completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina in 2003. He has conducted research in the areas of energy science, impact science, frictional welding, and materials property—with an emphasis on bio-inspired structured composites. Dr. Cheng Zhang: Assistant Professor, earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University in 2007. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2007 to 2010. He has conducted energy science research in the area of turbulent spray combustion, computational aeroacoustics of human phonation, combustion instability, and computational fluid dynamics modeling of solid fuel gasification.
Dr. Yong Zhu: Assistant Professor, received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN in 2006. His principal areas of research interest include mechatronics, design and control of portable energetic systems, biologically inspired robots and assistive technology.
