Co-ops and Internships
The experiential learning opportunities provided by co-operative programs and internships focus on practical, hands-on education of our students.
Students alternate terms of full-time classroom study with terms of full-time, discipline-related employment. Typically, students will work at least two terms, thus gaining a year or more of work experience before graduation. CEIT recommends that its students enter a co-op program after the completion of their sophomore year. The co-op experience is an extension of the classroom, providing for the application of knowledge gained in the classroom.
Each co-op has a defined beginning and end, and a job description with desired qualifications. Clearly defined learning objectives and goals are set at the beginning of the co-op, and may be updated as the student progresses. Employers will provide professional supervision for the student. The supervisor will provide and receive regular feedback to/from CEIT’s Director of RETP & Co-op Programs.
Internships integrate knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. The expectations and requirements for students and employers are the same as for a co-op experience; the difference is that an internship is generally offered to each student intern for only one semester of work.
The Director of RETP & Co-op Programs and the employer will draft a formal Co-op Agreement describing the student’s and employer’s responsibilities. In addition, evaluation forms will be provided for periodic review by the student’s work supervisor and the Director. If an employer wishes to hire their CEIT co-op student, the student may not begin employment before graduating from Georgia Southern University.
Georgia Southern University Career Services
The Georgia Southern Office of Career Services is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the nonacademic credit activities associated with “experiential learning opportunities” (co-ops and internships) for our students.
The Office of Career Services offers co-op students a seminar taught through distance learning to develop their professionalism and workplace intelligence. Modules address using self-management and interpersonal skills to work successfully in a team environment, managing change positively, team leadership, organizational awareness, self-confidence, achievement, drive and leadership. This particular program continues to set the Georgia Southern student and their co-op experience apart from other institutions of higher learning.

Eagle Career Net
Eagle Career Net is a web portal that connects employers with Georgia Southern students and alumni seeking internships, co-op’s and full-time jobs. Employers can post open positions, register for career fairs, schedule interviews and information sessions, and receive customized resume collections. Employers must register to access the Eagle Career Net portal.

It features hundreds of opportunities at any moment from employers who want to consider Georgia Southern University students and alumni. Information Technology Internship Requirement
Every IT major is expected to complete a 280 hour internship in a related field as part of the IT program core. Because students receive academic course credit for their internships, arrangements should be coordinated through Dr. John O’Malley, Director of RETP & Co-op Programs.
IT students should view the IT internship process and requirements. Employers interested in hiring IT students can request more information about the program via this form or by contacting Dr. O’Malley at (912) 478-7454.
The IT department maintains an online job board of current internship openings in the field.
Construction Management Work Requirement
The Bachelor of Science in Construction requires an approved work experience of 400 hours in the construction management industry prior to graduation.

From I-75 South/I-16 East/Highway 301 North (Atlanta/Macon):
Take Exit 116 off of I-16 and turn left (north) onto Highway 301. Continue for 10.2 Miles, then turn right onto Parrish Dr, and then left onto Forest Dr. Take the next right into Lot 41.
From I-95 North/I-16 West/GA 67 North (Savannah/Florida):
Take Exit 127 off of I-16 and turn right (north) onto GA 67. It is about 15 miles from I-16 to the Statesboro city limits. Turn left onto Veterans Memorial Parkway (301 Bypass) and continue 1.6 miles. Then turn right onto Akins Blvd. Turn Left onto Forest Dr. Continue Straight onto Old Register Rd and continue straight through the Traffic Circle. Continue past Parrish Dr. Then take the next right into Lot 41.
From Highway 25 and Highway 80 (Augusta and other routes):
Turn Right off of Northside Drive (HWY80/67) onto North Main Street. Continue for 1.7 miles. Turn Left onto Southern Drive, Turn right remaining on Southern Drive. Then take the first right onto Forest Drive. Then take the second left into Lot 41.
